Two new sister cities to Büyükçekmece Municipality

Büyükçekmece Municipal Council authorized Mayor Dr. Hasan Akgün to sign a sister city agreement with Tunisia Djerba Midoun Municipality and Tehran 12th District Municipality in Iran.

Büyükçekmece Municipality, which has gained an important place in the international arena with its projects in culture and arts, received a request from Djerba Midoun and Tehran 12th District Municipalities to be a sister city. In the May session of the Büyükçekmece Municipal Council, both demands were welcomed, and Mayor Akgün was authorized to sign a sister city agreement.

Social and cultural collaborations will be established

Establishing social and cultural cooperation, sharing information and experience on local services with the sister city agreement of Djerba Midoun Municipality, one of the tourism centers of Tunisia, and the Tehran 12th District Municipality of Iran, which is also known as the historical heart of Tehran, on of the oldest settlements of the region. It is aimed to contribute to lobbying activities in line with the international interests of our country through cooperation in economic fields and local diplomacy, with the preservation and restoration of historical sites, especially on touristic places.

Sister city agreement approved during the Municipal Council Session

Büyükçekmece Mayor Dr. Hasan Akgün stated that: “International unity and solidarity will be beneficial for both sides. These agreements will contribute to local diplomacy in terms of our history and tourism. Local services and historical information sharing will increase our experience. We aim to experience new cultural developments with sister city agreements. These international friendships enable us to develop in education, tourism, and cultural fields. We will continue to grow our brotherhood and friendship between countries and cities with all of our capability.” 

We will be glad to cooperate with Büyükçekmece

In the request for sister city agreement sent to Büyükçekmece Municipality, Tehran 12th District Mayor Dr. Ali Mohammad Sa’adati emphasized that they want to cooperate with Büyükçekmece Municipality in various fields, which can help Tehran’s tourism, restoration of historical monuments, and activities focused on city management and other various topics. 

Lassaad Hadjam, Mayor of Djerba Midoun, stated that they want to establish friendship ties based on the geographical location and historical heritage of Büyükçekmece. He also said that they would be happy to cooperate on local issues.
