Büyükçekmece kids celebrated April 23 by flying a kite

The 101st anniversary of April 23, National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, was celebrated with enthusiasm in Büyükçekmece.

April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day was celebrated with the kite festival organized by the Büyükçekmece Municipality along with the children of Büyükçekmece. The kite festival was held in the Mimaroba district’s Bababurnu seaside, with all the precautions taken within the scope of Covid-19 measures. Mayor of Büyükçekmece Dr. Hasan Akgün has attended the organization also. 

Colorful kites created a visual feast

The event was held under the social distance rules, and as the colorful kites were flown in the sky, it created a visual feast in Büyükçekmece. The kids of Büyükçekmece watched the colorful flying kites with happiness and enthusiasm. Mehmet Naci Aköz, who made significant contributions to the development of kite culture, attended the open-air event with his kite in the form of a 3D Turkish flag received great applause.

“A national leader unprecedented in the world”

As he attended the kite festival along with the kids, Büyükçekmece Mayor Dr. Hasan Akgün emphasized the importance of April 23 and said, “We celebrate April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day along with the children. April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day is the greatest act of our father Atatürk before starting the War of Independence, which was the starting point of the foundation of our Republic. Gazi Mustafa Kemal founded the assembly first and then started the War of Independence. He showed that he was an unprecedented national leader in the world and accomplished a significant job. We have to grasp this well. Therefore, we should understand the value of April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. It is the only holiday dedicated to the children in the world. We are constantly trying to experience this feeling with our children. I congratulate the holiday of all our children. The day is yours to live.

“It makes me feel glorious on April 23”

 The children expressed their love for Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gifted them the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, with the following words:

Suzan Kibar: I’m ten years old. I love April 23. Because Atatürk gifted us this important day. We are much happier now, thanks to this festival that Mayor Hasan made happen. We also thank him very much.

Miraç Özhan: I love Atatürk as he gifted us this day. I will always be grateful to him for his beautiful gift. I respect all of his words. Today we flew our kite at the kite festival. I managed to fly my kite, but sometimes I’ve failed. I’m very thankful to Atatürk that he makes us see these days.

Elif Nisa Akkuş: I’m 11 years old. I feel glorious on April 23. It makes me feel like I can sympathize with Atatürk as he fought on the fields for our independence. It’s a lovely day. The kite festival is also charming. I love flying a kite with my friends. 

Mert Sağır: April 23 is very precious to me, as precious as my life. You ask why? Because Atatürk fought for us, fought for our country, and gifted us this beautiful day. Because he loves us very much. And, we should love him the same way. Happy April 23 for all of us.
